He said that the Maoists have been cashing in on their fighters and ripping benefit from their name. The Maoists cannot be trusted upon till they give up the tendency towards military power and rebellious mindset, he said.

Is Decline in Cultural Diversity Still Taking Place? - Associated Content

In the paper titled "Catastrophic evolution, culture, and diversity management policy", Prof. Moghaddam (2006) argues that because of globalization, culture clashes have become more common and the result has been a
decline of cultural diversity. In contrast, Prof. Mahoney and Galis (2006) argue that if anything, globalization has reduced cultural clashes and the idea of decline in cultural diversity is not really valid.

Mahoney and Galis (2006) define "sudden contact" as a cognitive phenomenon where a person encounters new ideas. And culture is described as a constantly changing and evolving entity. Individuals tend to create their I - positions (sense of self) by forming relations to certain ideas in the culture (Josephs, Valsiner, & Surgan, 1999). And these I - positions are always dualistic so that there is a sense of what is "me" and what is "not - me". The sense of "me" tends to be strongly defined while "not - me" tends to be vague and arbitrary.

Cultural ascriptions like religion and language exist to serve various functions and when instances of sudden contact do take place, certain cultural attributes may cease to exist but new ones will always take their place (Bourdieu, 1990). It is not necessarily the case that sudden contact is leading to decline in cultural diversity but simply that various cultural attributes are going through a transformation of their form.

It is true that cultural ascriptions like language have gone down in number over the last few decades. But does this really signify decrease in cultural diversity? Languages such as English have become more commonly spoken all over the world but the phonetics of English can still differ from region to region depending upon the needs of local communities that use it.
