Fort George Island Cultural State Park is a great north Florida state park. Home to the historical Ribault club, this restored 1928 clubhouse was for the elite and wealthy of nearby Jacksonville and its visitors. By
the time the Great Depression hit just a few years later, it fell to the wayside of history. Over the years, it was bought and sold many times and fell into disrepair. Purchased in 1989, the Ribault Club was purchased by the state, restored to its original glory and is now renting the grand rooms for large parties, weddings and business events.

The grand rooms may be rented through The Ribault Club a private partnership that provides professional party planning. Specializing in weddings, business events and corporate retreats, you're sure to have the perfect private or business event. Call (904)251-1050 for more information on planning your event at the Ribault Club

This 581 acre portion of land on the island is part of the seven state parks that comprise, the Talbot Island State Parks. Located on A1A about 15 miles east of Jacksonville, Florida the Fort George Island Cultural State Park also has a great visitor's center located within the Ribault Club. It displays the history and cultural past that Fort George Island has had for the last 5,000 years since man first stepped her.

Once you've learned the history of Fort George Island Cultural State Park, it's time to go out and explore it yourself. A three mile hiking/biking trail is offered for visitors to the park. Its unique path winds through the old Scottish designed golf course. The Ribault Clubhouse had a golf course, lawn bowling area and other game fields. The golf course was kept open until the early 90's when they shut it down and let it return to its natural state. Don't bother bringing your golf clubs; instead bring a backpack or off-road bicycle.

U.N. deems French food a cultural treasure - Seattle Times

PARIS — Among humanity's most cherished cultural treasures, the United Nations declared Tuesday, are Peking opera, Spanish flamenco dancing — and lunch in France.

The U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included French food among new additions to a list celebrating the world's "intangible cultural heritage." UNESCO honored traditional Mexican cuisine as well, although that tended to be lost in the din of self-congratulation in France.

"The meal is a profound part of French people's identity," said Jean-Robert Pitte, the president of the University of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV), who led the effort to win UNESCO's blessing and explained the reasoning online.

A 24-member UNESCO committee met in Nairobi this month to consider 47 nomination from 29 countries.
