WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Purdue University professor who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry will receive one of Japan's most prestigious honors next week. Purdue says Professor Ei-ichi Negishi (pronounced H. Na-GEE-shee) will receive the Order of Culture from the country's emperor on Nov. 3 along with six other recipients. Negishi grew up in Japan and was announced as a Nobel Prize winner in October. Negishi won the Nobel Prize for his work in the 1960s and '70s of one of the most sophisticated tools available to chemists today, called palladium-catalyzed cross coupling.
